So you know the basics of using social media to promote your business, but did you know there are some really simple (and free!) apps you can use to make your content more engaging? Here’s some of our favourites:
Canva is a brilliant graphic design tool, designed for anyone to use. The best thing about Canva by far are the templates — simply choose one that works for you, drag-and-drop your logo and images, and the rest is done for you! No design or tech knowledge required. The basic Canva account is free and full of excellent features, but if you really want to level-up, pay the additional Pro subscription for $13.99 per month to get access to some extra templates, stock images, and premium fonts.
If you’ve got some time to play around creating video content for your social media platforms, then experiment with an app called LifeLapse to produce little stop-motion animation clips. There’s an awesome library of tutorials included and these will show you step-by-step how to shoot a quick and simple little video.
Add music, resize the video to fit, adjust the speed, colours, and contrast, then post straight from the app! LifeLapse also offers a premium subscription for members looking for more features, as well as additional filters, music, and settings — it’s $5.50 per month and well worth it if you intend to post a lot of video.
Everyone’s got their own favourite photo editing apps – our personal favourite is Afterlight. Other similar apps are VSCO, Google’s Snapseed, and Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop. Each has features that can help to enhance your images, however, Afterlight wins our vote for being the easiest to use without too many complex tweaks to the original image.
You should always strive to use original photo content when you’re promoting your business, however, occasionally you may find you need a stock image. The best free online library of quality stock images is at Stocksnap.io — there’s an enormous range of photos taken and submitted by professional photographers for unlimited royalty-free use.
If you want to create a super quick and simple graphic using a short amount of text, then WordSwag is a good tool to have up your sleeve.
WordSwag can overlay text using a variety of themed fonts on an image from your photo library and can look really slick and professional. The only downside is that the number of themes is quite limited, but for a free app, it’s a small inconvenience.
There’s so many excellent resources out there that cost nothing and can add so much to your social media content. Need something specific and can’t find a solution? Get in touch! We may be able to help or point you in the direction of someone who can,
