Low on cash and need to keep your social media efforts in-house? We understand. Adding yet another expense to your business when you’re first starting out can be taxing.

Good social media help doesn’t need to be expensive, though. In fact, if you’re willing to spend a bit of time online, there are a wealth of free online social media resources for anyone to access; you just need to know where to look!

Here’s some of our favourite free online social media resources:

Google Digital Garage

This free online social media resource is provided by internet giant, Google. The locally-focused training content is brilliant for small business owners, giving everyone the chance to understand more about digital marketing and to apply tried-and-tested techniques to their own venture.

The training material is divided into several topic categories, and you’re able to choose which modules are most relevant. Among some of the best free online social media resources inside the Google Digital Garage program are:

There’s 89 online lessons in 23 categories, so you’re bound to find something new to inspire you to take the reins of your online activity.

Hootsuite blog

One of our favourite websites, and a must for daily reading, is Hootsuite’s dedicated social media blog.

This free online social media resource is a treasure trove of useful information and news relating to online marketing.

You can search for information by network (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) or by topic (skills, news, strategy) and there’s brand new information every single day. It’s the best way to stay informed about what’s happening in the ever-changing world of social media marketing!

Podcasts

There are so many podcasts that focus on small business social media, and you need to be careful not to waste time on the wrong ones. Podcasts can be wonderful free online social media resources, but it’s best to choose carefully.

Our favourite is Buffer’s ‘The Science of Social Media‘. Although the content is US-based, the facts and research presented can be applied anywhere. One of their best podcast episodes was released a few weeks and looked at the best new social media strategies and tactics for 2019.
